Remarks by H.E. Mr. Tofig F. Musayev Permanent Representative of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the United Nations at the meeting of the Group of Friends of Global Governance under the theme “Reforming and Improving Global Governance, Working Together to Address Global Challenges”

At the outset, I would like to thank the Government of the People’s Republic of China for convening this meeting and for the invitation to contribute to its deliberations.
This meeting is taking place against the backdrop of serious and interconnected crises confronting the international community and placing considerable strain on the multilateral system.
The challenges facing the world today require a renewed commitment to strengthened global solidarity and more effective and credible multilateralism grounded in international law, the Charter of the United Nations, and a reformed and reinvigorated system of multilateral cooperation and global governance.
Azerbaijan joined the Global Governance Initiative put forward by the President of the People’s Republic of China and supports its core principles, viewing the initiative as an important and timely proposal aimed at upholding multilateralism and reinforcing the central role of the United Nations, based on the sovereign equality of States and respect for international law and the UN Charter.
This initiative is fully aligned with Azerbaijan’s longstanding support for multilateralism and its consistent advocacy for the universality of the purposes and principles enshrined in the Charter.
We firmly believe that, through inclusive multilateralism, all States – large and small, in particular developing countries – must equal opportunities to participate in global decision-making.
Azerbaijan has consistently contributed to the maintenance of international and regional peace and security and remains actively engaged in major economic, energy, and infrastructure projects that advance regional integration and promote sustainable development.
Azerbaijan reaffirms its determination to continue its consistent efforts toward further promoting peace, security and stability, strengthening international cooperation, and ensuring that the multilateral system becomes more effective and better equipped to deliver on its promises. |
