Permanent Mission of Azerbaijan to the UN commemorates International Day of Remembrance of Victims of Slavery and Transatlantic Slave Trade in New York
The International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade was observed at United Nations Headquarters in New York with a number of events. They included a commemorative meeting of the General Assembly, which featured remarks by the Secretary-General, the President of the General Assembly, Member States and keynote speaker Dr. Lonnie G. Bunch III, Director of the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, DC. There was also a ceremony to launch new elements of The Ark of Return, the Permanent Memorial to Honour the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade at the United Nations, as well as a cultural and culinary event featuring live music.
