Remarks at the Interactive Dialogue with the President of the General Assembly on Gender Parity
Delivered by Ms. Husniyya Mammadova, Counsellor 19 November 2025
Excellencies, distinguished delegates,
We thank the co-chairs of the Group of Friends on Gender Parity for convening this interactive dialogue.
Advancing gender equality remains central to the strength and credibility of the United Nations. The General Assembly reaffirmed this through the clear and forward-leaning language of resolution 79/327, which underscores that achieving gender parity across the UN system contributes to more effective governance, stronger decision-making and sustainable peace.
The UN80 initiative provides an important opportunity to accelerate this work. Its focus on institutional transformation offers a practical pathway to embed parity into the Organization’s structures and culture. These efforts aim not only to achieve balanced representation but also to foster inclusive leadership and ensure that women at all levels—across the Secretariat, field missions, funds and programmes—can fully contribute to shaping the UN’s future.
Azerbaijan has consistently demonstrated strong support for gender equality, both at home and in the multilateral arena. Nationally, we promote women’s empowerment through education, entrepreneurship, political participation and STEM initiatives, reflecting the fact that women constitute 50% of Azerbaijan’s workforce. Internationally, Azerbaijan supports gender-sensitive development, and the integration of gender perspectives across UN processes.
Gender equality and balanced representation are integral to building an Organization that reflects the diversity, perspectives and talents of the peoples it serves. We stand ready to work with all Member States to ensure that strong words our resolutions translate into the decisive action necessary to secure full parity of all women, everywhere.
Thank you. |
