Statement at the ECOSOC Coordination Segment

Delivered by Ms. Gamar Safarova, Third Secretary

29 January 2026

Mr. Chair,

I would like to begin by thanking distinguished panelists for their insightful remarks. This discussion comes at a critical moment for ECOSOC and for the multilateral system as a whole.

Serving as the principal platform for coordination across the UN system, ECOSOC provides a gateway for all stakeholders to contribute meaningfully to global policymaking. As highlighted during the Partnership Forum, effective partnerships thrive when participation is predictable, accessible, and impactful. To further strengthen stakeholder engagement, ECOSOC could continue to promote early and structured stakeholder involvement from agenda-setting through to implementation and review.

These principles are not only essential at the global level but are also reflected in national efforts to implement the Sustainable Development Goals. In Azerbaijan, progress toward the SDGs has been supported by strong inter-institutional coordination and broad stakeholder engagement. Our national development strategies, including Azerbaijan 2030: National Priorities for Socio-Economic Development and the 2022–2026 Socio-Economic Development Strategy, are fully aligned with the SDGs, ensuring policy coherence across sectors.

Building on this national experience, we remain fully engaged in strengthening ECOSOC’s role in advancing integrated solutions for sustainable development. As a member of ECOSOC, Azerbaijan looks forward to participating in the forthcoming milestones of the ECOSOC and High-level Political Forum processes, including discussions on sustainable urban development. In this context, Azerbaijan will contribute to these deliberations by drawing on the policy exchanges and practical insights emerging from preparations for the 13th session of the World Urban Forum to be held in Azerbaijan in May 2026.

In conclusion, by sharing national experiences and scaling inclusive, evidence-based approaches, ECOSOC can continue to strengthen its role as a gateway for all stakeholders and accelerate collective progress toward the 2030 Agenda.

Thank you.
